　　Although gambling is illegal in most of New Jersey, a 1970s referendum legalized gambling in Atlantic City. Legal gambling in New Jersey is regulated by the state's Casino Control Commission and its Division of Gaming Enforcement, and laws pertaining to gambling are contained in the state's Casino Control Act. These laws govern who is allowed to gamble and under what conditions they can gamble.
　　Excluded people
　　Certain people are "excluded" from gambling in New Jersey. This includes people who have been known to cheat or have attempted to cheat in casinos before. The Casino Control Commission maintains a list of people who are barred from legal gambling in the state. This list, which includes photos and more information about offenders, is publicly available on the official website of the commission.
　　Underage gambling
　　People under the age of 21 are never allowed to gamble in New Jersey. Underage gambling is a criminal offense, and can result in a fine of up to $1,000 and a six-month suspension of the offender's driver's license. Someone who assists a minor in gambling underage is also criminally liable and can be charged with a "disorderly persons" offense.
　　Internet Gambling
　　Even though it is legal to gamble in person in Atlantic City, Internet gambling is illegal in New Jersey. This law applies even if the online gambling site is operated in a different jurisdiction.
　　Self-Exclusion
　　New Jersey law provides a method for people who want to voluntarily exclude themselves from gambling in the state to do so. In order to do so, it is required that the individual schedule a "fingerprint appointment" with the state enforcement's fingerprint unit and submit themselves to be photographed. Once they have completed the self-exclusion process, the individual's name and photograph will be provided to the state's casinos and they are to be barred from gambling in them.
